Feb 13/2021 - President's Message
Submitted By Sue D'Ambrosio on Saturday, February 13, 2021
I hope everyone is safe, healthy and keeping warm in this cold weather we seem to be experiencing.

We have received following news from the arena;

As it stands currently Dr Locke Southwestern Public Health chief medical officer has stated that if we were to reopen today we would be in the red control category of the covid response framework but we are trending towards orange. As a result of not knowing what category we will transition into, council decided to call a special meeting for next Tuesday February 16th to make a decision on reopening the arena as we will know by then what colour and in turn what guidelines and restrictions we would fall under.

If we are placed in red then we would be limited to max 10 patrons in the arena at one time and no games or scrimmages would be allowed. If we are placed in orange then we can have max 50 patrons in the facility at one time as did prior to the provincial lockdown.

It is important to note that once we are placed in a colour we remain in that colour for 28 days and you cannot move down the framework during that time you can only move up to greater restrictions. The provincial announcement today also allowed local chief medical officers of health to immediately initiate lockdown if case counts spike and or if covid variants are found within the community. So for example we could be placed into orange and there is a spike in cases and or the variant is found to be present in the region and we would immediately be moved back to lockdown.

With this said, we are awaiting the upcoming council meeting to be held this Tuesday February 16th.   As promised, once I have any communication from the arena management, I will certainly share with our skating families.

On a up note,  our coaches have been working very hard on a plan to keep our children safe and still allow skating to continue when/if we reopen in the "red" zone.   Coaching staff will reach out to each family member once we have confirmation our arena will open.

As always,  please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
